KYBELLA
Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is a prescription-strength injection designed to address the double chin (submental fat) in adults. It works by destroying the fat cells in the neck, which are then naturally eliminated by the body over several weeks. Once these fat cells are eliminated, they cannot store or accumulate fat again. The FDA has approved Kybella for cosmetic use specifically in the double chin area.
During the treatment, which lasts approximately 15-20 minutes, patients will experience a burning sensation as the solution is injected. The number of vials needed per treatment varies, with most patients requiring two to three vials, while some may need six or more. Typically, two to four treatments are necessary to achieve the desired results, though some patients may require six or more treatments. Final improvement is assessed twelve weeks after the last treatment. The number of vials and treatments needed is an estimation of the required Kybella to enhance the appearance of the double chin.
SIDE EFFECTS OF KYBELLA
Injection-site side effects of Kybella are mild to moderate, temporary and may include the following:
- Pain
- Burning
- Swelling
- Areas of hardness
- Temporary or permanent hair loss in the treatment area
- Skin tightness
